DOCUMENTARY COMPELLING STORIES WORTH TELLING
The documentary is the heartland of many filmmakers. It has always been so and continues to be the place where storytelling and incredible visuals combine to create something special. A place where the ‘actors’ are real people, and all the world is your stage! It doesn’t have to be a hard-hitting documentary uncovering truths on some injustice or globally important political situation. Although, many of the best documentaries entertain and inform while raising awareness of a subject to the wider world. The winning film could just as well be highlighting a local issue, telling the tale of an artisan craftsperson, a biography of an interesting person or a personal challenge completed against the odds. We’re looking for compelling stories told well, where the visual medium is a major contributing factor to the impact of the story. Last year’s winner was the story of a talented endurance runner and cyclist called Jenny, who ran solo and unsupported across a mountain range on six continents. Documenting such a monumental achievement into film was the job of Ellie Green, the film’s producer, director and editor. She spent many days putting everything together to create an awe-inspiring film.
