or less than the price of many single COB lights, Neewer will sell you a whole portable lighting system. First take the
FS60B for £120⁄$110, add on the £78⁄$90 battery grip, the quick-release softbox for £50⁄$69 and £30⁄$23 Bowens adapter, and you have a self-contained location lighting kit weighing little more than a kilogram – and all for just £278⁄$292. That’s less than many filmmakers spend on a battery for their main light. At first glance, it is difficult to believe this really is a fully featured 60W COB light. Rather than resembling a traditional lighting head, it looks more like a portable hard drive or even an old-school Walkman. It is small enough to disappear into any camera bag or squeeze into places where larger fixtures simply won’t fit. Despite its tiny dimensions, the FS60B is capable of a claimed 34,300 lux at 1m with the supplied reflector fitted. Our own measurements using a Sekonic C-800 confirmed Neewer’s figures, making this one of the brightest lights we have tested in this size class. The bicolour COB engine covers a wide 2700K to 6500K range with smooth 0-100% dimming and four selectable dimming curves. Colour quality is equally impressive, with quoted CRI 96+ and TLCI 98+ ratings. Our tests using both the Sekonic C-800 and Lit Duo 1 colour meter showed excellent consistency. Without the reflector fitted, colour temperature measured only around 40-90K cooler than the selected value and showed just a slight shift towards green – impressive performance for a light costing only £120.
