A GATEWAY TO THE GLOBE A new cloud gateway solution, GMN MediaNet, is being rolled out by Telstra, expanding GMN’s international fibre, satellite and partner media networks by providing a gateway from ‘on-net’ media rights holders to ‘off-net’ media buyers, using cloud infrastructure. Telstra is also adding data-based capability, known as GMN Media Data, using bidirectional and multipoint Ethernet services with the ability to create data channels that allow a point-to-point data link between a media company HQ and a remote event or location. The Telstra Global Media Network is a purpose-built video contribution and distribution network integrating underlying media fibre networks, satellite capabilities and partnerships. The addition of a new secure cloud gateway to and from the network aims to allow high-quality video transport to and from markets with little to no infrastructure, as well as incident-prone areas. Telstra is also extending its Telstra Global Media Network Partner Alliance through two new partnerships with PSSI

Global Services and Intelsat. PSSI is a North American company specialising in live event management, transmission and connectivity solutions and owns and operates a large fleet of C-band and Ku-band transmission vehicles. The Telstra GMN is connected into the PSSI International Teleport to deliver North American content globally. Intelsat’s satellite backbone, with terrestrial infrastructure for hybrid satellite and fibre connectivity, operates eight strategically positioned global teleports reaching the Earth’s entire surface. INTEGRATING THE CLOUD Cloud-based and on-premises video platform, Zixi, announced a partnership and integration with Elecard. Elecard is a well-known provider of software products for encoding, transcoding, monitoring and analysis of video and audio data in a diverse range of formats. Using the real-time encoding and transcoding platform, CodecWorks, Elecard has fully integrated the Zixi software-defined platform, turning it into HEVC/H.265, AVC/H.264 and MPEG- 2 video, supporting adaptive bit rate streaming via HLS and MPEG-DASH. This integration is significant for many – from broadcasters, OTT and IPTV providers to surveillance system owners, system integrators and network owners

– who can adopt these solutions to create a high-quality TV experience. “With this integrated offering, we are able to provide accelerated GPU-based encoding for the highest density, as well as distributed transcoding support and hitless failover with an automatic switchover to a redundant source in the case a predefined error occurs,” explained Vadim Blinov, Elecard CodecWorks’ product manager.
