Simulation Spotlight Delving into the world of FUJIFILM Film Simulations

Just like FUJIFILM ETERNA, ETERNA Bleach Bypass draws inspiration from Fujifilm’s cinematic heritage. This Film Simulation replicates a film processing technique used widely across the motion picture world. Bleach Bypass – also known as silver retention – refers to a method of colour film processing in which the final bleaching procedure is partially skipped. This prevents the silver crystals in the film from being washed out of the emulsion, which results in an effect that looks as though a black & white image has been superimposed over the original colour photograph. The end result is a highly stylised aesthetic with significantly reduced colour saturation, heightened contrast and deep, rich shadows. ETERNA Bleach Bypass simulates the look of this technique, applying it to the ETERNA Film Simulation. Ideal for both filmmaking and photography, it offers a highly characterful style that’s perfect for your dramatic compositions. As one of the more distinctive Film Simulations, it probably won’t work in all circumstances. But it does provide a great base for dramatic Film Simulation recipes that can lead to some cinematic images.

Use ETERNA Bleach Bypass to create images that combine subtle, muted colours with a harsh contrast between the highlights and shadows

ETERNA Bleach Bypass is based on a range of motion- picture film stocks called FUJIFILM ETERNA – just like the ETERNA Film Simulation. Think of ETERNA Bleach Bypass as being based on the same film, only with another processing method applied.
