SPA DAY The best entries from the Leamington Spa club’s annual show explore a range of subjects and styles

A member of the Isle of Thanet Photographic Society has achieved a rare honour: her work displayed at the House of Commons as part of a powerful, compelling exhibition exploring mental health. Photographer Laura Drury contributed an image to Mental Health – A Personal Response , a project developed by a small creative group formed in 2024. The collective set out to move beyond conventional image making, focusing instead on emotion, mood and personal interpretation. Laura explained: “We were encouraged to respond intuitively, creating photographs shaped by emotion, light, tone, mood, connection and communication.” Her exhibited image, Closing In , tackles the complex and often overwhelming nature of mental health struggles. Inspired by the theme of Mental Health Awareness Day in October 2025, the work explores the pressures many people face, particularly young men. isleofthanetphotographicsociety.com Photography with a purpose at Westminster

Double exposure in Manchester

Two thriving monthly clubs in Manchester offer welcoming spaces for photographers of all levels – whether you’re shooting on film or digital. Hosted at the Share Your Story creative hub in Altrincham, the venue provides studio space and seminar rooms, as well as retailing equipment. The Film Photography Club taps into the growing resurgence of analogue image making. Each session explores a different aspect of using film, from practical skills such as developing black & white rolls to inspiring talks from working photographers. Some recent highlights include a showcase from street photographer Sein and an in-depth session on documentary work and processing techniques with award- winning photographer Ed Jones. The Photography Club takes a broader approach. Led by professional photographer Jane Burkinshaw of Love Your Lens, it’s designed as a relaxed, inclusive space to keep creativity flowing. Sessions range from informal talks and group discussions to image sharing and photo walks, with a strong emphasis on encouragement rather than critique. shareyourstory.uk
