TREND REPORT IN THE KITCHEN WITH A LITTLE INSIGHT FROM SOCIAL MEDIA SEARCH TRENDS, THE TEAM AT WREN KITCHENS GIVE THE LOW-DOWN ON WHAT’S HOT IN THE WORLD OF DESIGN
TIMELESS APPEAL Wren offers a range of options, like the classic Shaker style (above), or a herringbone floor seen in the J Pull Kitchen (below); don’t forget granite worktops for durable style (right)
THE COLOUR: WHITE According to Instagram hashtags, classic white is still the most popular colour choice, with “#whitekitchen” displaying hundreds of thousands of inspirational snaps. But has white had its day? Darren Watts, design director for Wren Kitchens, thinks the tide might be turning: “When designing their kitchens, people are choosing to go with a bolder palette more and more,” he explains. “We’re seeing a definite trend towards green, for example – which can be hyper modern or quite classic. The colour has definitely been helped along in its rise to prominence by celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, Dakota Johnson and Cameron Diaz going for green kitchens and sharing pics to their huge social media followings!” THE CABINETS: SHAKER STYLE Another classic that’s still going strong is the Shaker kitchen – possibly one of the most enduring and versatile styles of them all. Featuring clean lines and minimal embellishments, Shaker cabinets have a design that works equally well in a rustic farmhouse, or a sleek, modern apartment. Fun fact: internet trend data indicates that searches for “Shaker-style kitchen cabinets” have increased by a whopping 110% in the past year. While its popularity is surging, this isn ’ t a style that will go out of fashion: it has timeless appeal.
