TREND REPORT

ENTERTAIN IN STYLE WITH THESE DELIGHTFUL DINING TRENDS. KATE REED, FROM LOCAL FURNITURE AND HOMEWARES STORE ANGELA REED, SHOWS YOU HOW IN THE DINING ROOM

ormal dining areas are a thing of the past for most of us now,” asserts Kate Reed from the Angela Reed

team. “Our lives and living spaces tend to centre around one focal point, which is more casual and multi-purpose.” This rings especially true here in Cambridge, where space is at a premium and many homes won’t have a dedicated dining room. Whatever layout you’re working with, you can still create a stylish and functional place for eating and entertaining – and Angela Reed’s Peas Hill store is a great place to start. An Aladdin’s cave of gorgeous homewares, the current range features some great additions to any dining table, including classic glassware, brightly coloured glazed serving bowls, and mosaic-patterned ceramic plates. Trend-wise, Kate has noticed the natural world infiltrating and influencing our interiors: “Bringing greenery into indoor spaces is huge right now – and the dining area is no exception,” she comments. “Think faux florals and sprays that look fabulous all year.” She also recommends playing around and getting creative if you’ve got a casual dining area, incorporating mismatched furniture, different colours and textures. But what about a wow factor ‘tablescape’

PIN LIGHTS CAN BRING AN EXTRA TOUCH OF MAGIC

for a dinner party? “Finding beautiful place mats and runners reliably elevates the look, but the key is in the detail,” Kate advises. “Matching glassware and gorgeous plates are always in style – throw in some candles and sprays and you’re on to a winner. While we still have vibrant flowers in bloom, placing some cuttings into vases and pitchers can look lovely, and bring freshness. Later, you can always use Angela Reed’s faux flowers, so everything looks perfect, whatever the season! As we move towards the colder nights of winter, draping some battery-powered pin lights on the table can bring an extra touch of magic.”
