WHAT’S THE VIBE? Like an emporium of curiosities from bygone days, Ark Cambridge is an eclectic store offering a mix of gifts and homewares. You can lose yourself for hours with a sense of wonder at all the unusual pieces for sale. “The shop is a real treasure trove, we want to make sure there is something for everyone and that you have a lovely time finding it,” says manager, Ruth Reyes. WHAT IS THE ETHOS? “We like to say that we offer gifts and homewares for interesting people,” continues Ruth. From Nudie bamboo toothbrushes to quirky ‘face’ plant pots, the company searches far and wide for unique products, with a focus on small producers, artisans who create fun items for the home and home accessories you won’t find in larger chain stores. GO HERE FOR… Feather-filled, embroidered tropical bird cushions, mango wood-cutting boards, etched with delicate leaves or an owl face, and faux ferns. Don’t go here for neutral pieces, it’s all about zesty, bright items to bring a touch of cheer to your home. THE HERO PRODUCT… The ‘Funny Bits’ key fobs are perfect for house keys and are part of the irreverent in-house range designed by the store’s sister company – Ark Colour Design. The collection of offbeat pieces includes leather notebooks and clutches, made in Scotland, and ceramic pots, made in Torquay. DON’T LEAVE WITHOUT… The woven hanging baskets with macramé tassels in an array of colours are great for
small plants and will bring a smile every time you look at them.
WHAT’S GOING TO BE BIG IN INTERIORS NEXT YEAR? “We think pattern-mixing and a bold colour palette will be on trend next year,” says Ruth. “We’ve had a few years of minimalism and that’s changing. So it’s time for lots of personality in the home.”
