reamsource goes back to lighting basics – then throws 3000W, full colour, liquid cooling and some thoroughly modern technology at them – with its new C3 Fresnel. After more than four years of development, Creamsource’s C3 is a 3000W full-colour LED fresnel and the first model in a new range from the Australian manufacturer behind the Vortex panels. Rather than creating a general-purpose LED fixture and bolting a fresnel attachment onto the front, Creamsource designed the C3 as a dedicated fresnel from day one. Its proprietary optical system is built around producing uniform illumination, smooth roll-off, minimal colour fringing and crisp shadows. The beam adjusts from an 18° spot to a 60° flood, either remotely via DMX or manually using an avionic-style control paddle. At full spot it pumps out 10,000 lux at 10m, dropping to 1500 lux at the same distance in full flood. Generating so much power also means generating plenty of heat. Creamsource has developed a liquid-based thermal management system designed to keep temperature variation across the light engine within 5°C. Colour comes from a new seven-colour BCGLARD engine that uses blue, cyan, green, lime, amber, red and deep-red emitters. Creamsource claims this expands the native Vortex colour gamut by 20%, covering more than 92% of Rec. 2020. The CCT adjustment Creamsource’s mighty 3000W C3 aims to make the classic filmmaking fresnel light better Cream of the crop
Cool box The cube-shaped Creamsource C3 uses liquid cooling to manage its 3000W power
runs from 2200-15,000K, with typical CRI and TLCI ratings of 98. The C3 is no lightweight at 45kg⁄99.2lb, but its cage-like body is designed for rigging and handling. Multiple fixtures can also be joined into arrays using Creamsource’s LNX system, with the square fresnel helping to
minimise gaps between light sources. Other touches include IP65 weather resistance, integrated power, flicker-free operation beyond 5000fps in High Speed Mode and camera-shutter synchronisation. Prices start at $18,800, with no UK price yet. creamsource.com
Storm force warning as Aputure goes higher
Turn up the power with the Storm CS32, Aputure’s brightest fully colour-tunable, point-source LED yet and a fixture it says can outperform a 4K HMI. The BLAIR-CG with Extended Red light engine delivers 106,000 lux at 3m with the 30° reflector at 5600K, giving a vast 1800-20,000K CCT range and over 90% Rec. 2020 coverage. Despite the output, it’s designed for one-person operation. The lamp head
weighs 16.8kg⁄37lb, with a 10.8kg⁄23.8lb control box, as well as being IP65-rated. The £6998⁄$7590 CS32 promises accurate whites alongside deeply saturated colours, with Extended Red aimed at improving skin tones and colour rendition. It’s compatible with the existing Storm XT52 accessories and can be extended up to 45m from its control box. aputure.com
