Sister product the G-Technology G-Drive Mobile Pro also offers transfer rates up to 2800MB/s, the maximum speed Thunderbolt 3 has to offer, so you can natively edit footage in real-time, or transfer as much as a terabyte of content in seven minutes or less. The device is also built for location work, offering shock-resistant storage in a durable case with three-metre drop protection, a 1000lb crush- proof rating, and designed with handpicked components to sustain the rigours of travel. The newest version of the Thunderbolt 3 port onboard provides a powerful, versatile connection that allows you to plug in to a compatible computer and instantly extend your storage without the need for external power. Meanwhile a protective aluminium core prevents overheating to maintain a high level of sustained performance, while a custom enclosure insulates the drive so that heat doesn’t transfer to the exterior of the device when in use. what was required to make a 4K ProRes Raw workflow viable. “This means I can ingest my footage exceptionally quickly,” says David. “I also don’t have to worry about transcoding; even though it’s a Raw format I can drop it straight into my editing system and I can move backwards and forwards and play in real time, even add adjustments also in real time, and there’s absolutely no lag. “There’s no denying that moving to an SSD-based workflow does call for an investment, but it’s an investment in saving time. By saving the lag time in editing I get that investment back and it allows me to get on with my project, to turn it around very quickly and to move on to the next one. Working with a G-Technology SSD-based workflow has absolutely revolutionised the way that I work.”

Equipped with up to 16TB of solid state storage running at a scorching fast 2800MB/s, the G-Speed Shuttle SSD device with Thunderbolt 3 technology lets you edit multi-camera footage in real time and quickly export with incredible efficiency. This in turn enables you to transfer your critical 4K, 8K, VR, high dynamic range (HDR) and high frame rate (HFR) footage in a single location. The device is also rugged and built for easy travel between your on-site production location and the studio for post-production, so you have powerful, transportable storage to help improve your workflow efficiency, wherever you are. For maximum performance, the G-SPEED Shuttle SSD comes in RAID 5 out of the box and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50 to provide a versatile and flexible storage solution, while Dual Thunderbolt 3 ports allowyou to daisy chain up to five additional devices so you can stay connected to multiple drives, 4K displays and more, through a single connection.

it did mean that he had to think carefully about how he was going to approach this project while he also needed to work out a feasible strategy that would enable him to achieve the variety of shots he needed to put together a watchable production. Accessories such as a slider enabled some movement to be added, while David also went for some attractive shots from height that called for him to be suspended somewhat precariously in a cradle secured by steel pegs that had been hammered into the sheer rock face that Yann was due to scale. With his Canon EOS C300 MkII and Atomos monitor contained within a well-balanced rig David had to place his entire trust in the strength of this arrangement and it didn’t let him down. It’s one thing to be able to create stunning footage single-handed, but the

whole project could come crashing down should anything fail to be backed up and subsequently be lost. Fully aware of the potential for disaster David made a point of heading back to his nearby van on a regular basis to back his Atomos SSD up to his G-Technology G-Speed Shuttle SSD, using a Thunderbolt 3 connection to ensure the speed of transfer he required. Also on hand was the G-Technology G-Drive Mobile Pro, and the fact that he was working with the fastest drives on the market – both of them capable of up to 2800Mbps transfer speeds – was exactly
