THE IMPORTANCE OF MEMORY

offering the highest write speed in the market: 299Mbps. It can shoot up to 240 uncompressed Raw pictures in less than 25 seconds. It’s also waterproof and has the strength to withstand 18kg industry weight tests. Formoments that don’t go to plan, it’s good to have options. Sony offers a downloadable file rescue software service that gives you an opportunity to attempt recovery of deleted images or videos, including Raw images and 4K XAVC-S video files. There’s also an SD Scan Utility that gives you the option to evaluate the health of your media before you leave for your shoot. The Sony cards also carry a comprehensive five-year warranty. So, as the requirement to shoot ever faster and higher-resolution images linked with 4K video and mirrorless camera production increases, the need for yet greater capacity, faster card speeds and increased reliability means memory innovation is a key factor for the professional.

As a filmmaker I knowmemory is critical,butwhenbuying/shooting what should I be considering? The key points here are card speed, media strength and integrity, plus the ability to function efficiently in the environment you’re shooting in. Your media choices should always maximise camera performance. Having the right memory for your application is crucial; this means considering hardware features and card specification. The brand of memory you choose has to deliver a solution specific to your demands and one card doesn’t fit all! Sony’s long history in both the professional broadcast and specialist camera markets has led to solutions that specifically fit the requirements of professionals. This is highlighted by the world’s fastest SD card (the Sony SF-G series) and the recent launch of the world’s strongest and first monolithic SD card that embodies Sony’s one-piece production process, the Sony TOUGH SD card,

HOW DO I USE RGB LEDS?

ABOVE LEDs can offer DOPs and light

I’ve heard a lot about LED lights that candeliver an infinitevarietyof hues, but what are the uses for this? By introducing a six-chip LED fixture, we’ve created a light with immeasurable colour hue capabilities: every colour you could possibly want to work with is in here. We could have done a similar job using just three LEDS, but by doubling the number on board we’ve increased the colour spectrum exponentially. When lighting a film set, the starting point is always white light, and the white provided by our MIX light ranges from 1700-10,000k, all available to the lighting technician at the push of a button. The colours of MIX’s six LEDs (Red/Green/Lime/ Blue/Amber/White) have been chosen to achieve fuller white spectrums with better representation of colours inside. The magic of LEDs and electronics is that you can dissect the white spectrum and use hues to tint or pastel white light: in other words to create a fully saturated colour. For the lighting technician, the challenge is tomatch various light sources, but withMIX you have the ability to create ‘True Rosco Colour,’ and this makes matching other sources on set much easier.
