Reducing the need for crews and equipment to travel can bring clear environmental benefits, without changing the experience for audiences. However, viewers are also consuming media very differently than ten years ago. The growth of short-form content, vertical video and formats such as micro dramas is changing how content is being created and delivered for mobile audiences. Production and post tools need to reflect that shift, with PYXIS cameras and DaVinci Resolve natively supporting that. RONEN ARTMAN: The industry is changing quickly, and it’s almost impossible to predict how technology will evolve. But quality and latency will remain foundational. Personalisation, meanwhile, is arriving through platform and format just as much as through the underlying technology. Digital-first content will continue to expand, and the role of influencers will grow further into mainstream content, delivered through platforms that are inherently personalised to each viewer.

Getting there requires a mindset shift as much as a technology one. Broadcasters have to be open-minded, look for solutions and bring in the imagination that smaller start-ups can offer. The days of waiting until a technology is mature enough to adopt are gone; if you wait, you will miss the boat. Broadcasters are going to have to be agile in accepting these new technologies early and willing to trial and error, because the pace of change does not allow for anything else. WHAT SHOULD THE INDUSTRY BE FOCUSING ON NOW TO ENSURE TODAY'S BREAKTHROUGHS BECOME TOMORROW'S STANDARD PRACTICE?

RONEN ARTMAN: The next chapter won’t be defined by a single breakthrough technology, it will be defined by how well the industry integrates the ones already here. AI, cloud production, IP contribution and orchestration all exist today in mature enough forms to change how broadcasters work. The real test is whether they’re brought together into automated workflows broadcasters can actually rely on at scale, rather than adopted piecemeal as isolated point solutions. Part of that will be defined by how closely hardware and software are brought together, rather than treated as separate layers. AI can transform how workflows run, but it can’t replace the hardware that captures, encodes and transmits the signal. Reliable field units and connectivity remain essential; innovation lies in how tightly they work with intelligence layered on top, not in one replacing the other.

JAMIE DUNN: First things first. I can only recommend that the one sensible investment for broadcasters looking at new media infrastructure is into an IP solution. The clear trend is towards media software functions running on generic servers and in the cloud, thus providing asset efficiency and cost- saving possibilities through Dynamic Media Facility principles. Investments are also protected with these concepts, as software solutions become agnostic to IP transport standards. This means that standards such as SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, SRT, Dante, JPEG XS and WebRTC are all supported without the need for additional or special hardware. Running software media processing apps on standard server technology is available and working reliably today, as has been proven at the largest scale to create the most-viewed live content.
