Here are some of the judge’s comments:
Ray shares the story behind his winning image:“The couple love the Lake District – as do I. My family and I go to the lakes every year for our annual holiday instead of going abroad. “The couple got married in County Durham, but I knew they loved the Lakes as much as I did, so I asked them if they wanted to drive over to Ullswater and have a camping weekend, where we hiked about and captured some beautiful sunset photos and then sunrise photos the followingmorning. “This image was taken on the evening we got to the Lakes, after an hour-long hike from the car park, shot fromWalla Crag overlooking Derwentwater, Keswick. “Doesn’t sound too bad, does it?Well… I had to carry a hiking bag that contained my photography bag, two heavy-duty light stands, tripod, lighting equipment etc. It was some weight, let me tell you!”
“This image conveys a destination adventure with an incredible vista and dramatic lighting. The tried-and- tested composition helps create a wonderful, distant fairy-tale image. Great capture.” BRETT FLORENS “Great location and a gorgeous sky perfectly used for this simply posed image of a handsome young wedding couple. I think the backlighting and the soft end-of-day lighting were both perfect to single out the bride and groom from the background.” FAYE YERBURY
