BUYERS’ GUIDE TRAVEL BAGS

CAMRADE TRAVELMATE 360 £230/$259 camrade.com

CAMRADE TRAVELMATE LARGE £282/$329 camrade.com

The Camrade TravelMate 360 is a ‘spinner’ bag with four wheels – instead of the usual two – to make it easier to move around in tight places. And the wheels take all the weight when it’s being pulled or pushed. Fitting four wheels does take up a bit more internal space, but it’s still roomy. There are lots of internal pockets in the lid and a motion-sensing LED light, which helps you see inside the bag when it’s dark. There are also straps, helping the lid stay upright. The TravelMate 360 is carry-on legal and fits in an overhead compartment. The rotating wheels can be detached to make the bag even more compact. On the front, a separate compartment stores a laptop or tablet. The soft, padded interior includes removable dividers, but there is no way of fastening a tripod.

The TravelMate Large from Camrade is a very strong, wheeled bag with telescopic trolley handle, as well as a comfortable backpack. This way it provides great flexibility in the safe transportation of your camera and accessories. On the front, a separate compartment is added to store a laptop. Various pockets and slits – on both the inside and outside of the bag – help store and organise several smaller items like documents, memory cards, cables and tools. The padded interior includes removable dividers to arrange the main compartment into sections. There are straps on the side of the main compartment flap to prevent it from falling open, and an LED with motion sensor that lights up as soon as you open the bag. A larger XL version is also available, if you require the extra space.

Pros: Four wheels for manoeuvrability Cons: No easy tripod attachment

Pros: Roller bag or backpack Cons: Not the most stylish
