DJI TRANSMISSION
The latest DJI Ronin RavenEye module is great at short distances, but adding the £1979/$2499 DJI Transmission system on top gives a staggering 6km/20,000ft range with low latency. Video is transmitted in 1080p/60fps and provides live audio monitoring at 16-bit 48kHz. You’ll want to budget another £589/$729 for the Hand Grips combo package. Trust us, it makes a huge difference – and is professional-quality kit, designed to work well and last. Charged by battery, or taking power from the RS 3 Pro, the transmitter unit partners perfectly with the DJI gimbal. But it can also be a wireless audio system for any camera with HDMI or SDI output. The Transmission has standard antennae, but long-range versions come with the kit. A DFS band is added on top of traditional 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz settings, with up to 23 channels for interference-free transmission. A built-in frequency sweeper automatically scans for the best wireless channel, instantly switching when needed. Manually select a channel to avoid interference between devices. This beams its signal to DJI’s seven-inch, 1500-nit High-Bright Remote Monitor, which includes an integrated receiver – so no need for cables. The device supports one transmitter with multiple receivers. Of course, the massive range is largely theoretical. There are few places you can get 6km/20,000ft
LONG DISTANCE DJI’s solution lets you change camera settings from miles away – literally!
The kit can be powered by its own batteries – or V-Mount, D-Tap and Sony NP-F units. DC, USB-C to Lemo and SDI cables are all included in a fitted hard case. A hood and strap enable you to wear the monitor around your neck. Lots of on-screen commands are featured along with the monitor, which also has a microSD card slot to allow for recording and playback of a 1080p/60fps H.264 live feed, as well as access to video timecodes – ideal for proxy editing on-set. The monitor is compatible with DJI Master Wheels and Force Pro accessories, meaning even more accurate gimbal control. It’s a great all-in-one solution for users of DJI RS 3 Pro and Ronin 2 gimbals – elevating them into the upper reaches of high-end cinematography production. dji.com
away from your gimbal and still be in line of sight. And what shoot would require that anyway? Suffice to say, it has huge range. Although walls and buildings may interfere with that, it’s powerful enough to work flawlessly in most regular shooting situations. When paired with RS 3 Pro, the Transmission system can control not only the gimbal, but also the camera – if it’s the right model. We matched it with a Sony A7S III and it worked perfectly. The monitor has a built-in gyroscopic sensor that acts as a motion controller for the RS 3 Pro. But for even better command, simply add on the optional Hand Grips. This gives you a remote view and the ability to change camera settings on the screen – and even use the focus wheel. Latency is low enough that you can employ it as a follow focus monitor.
