5 TRIPOD: MANFROTTO MVH502A HEAD ON 546B TRIPOD £506/$461 www.manfrotto.com With a solid camera like the Canon you need a suitably sturdy fluid-head tripod, and the Manfrotto MVH502A Head with 546B tripod fits the bill; it comes with a mid-level spreader and bag. A good fluid head is essential for smooth moves, and the Manfrotto has variable fluid drag and an adjustable counterweight system. The head can support payloads of up to 7kg/5.4lb, and also features two Easy Link connectors to fit accessories such as monitors. The 546B is a rigid two-stage design and can support up to 20kg/44lb. The spreader has telescopic adjustment, and the legs have leg locks with spiked feet and rubber overshoes.

6 BAG: LOWEPRO PHOTOSTREAM RL 150 £169/$240

A lightweight roller bag is ideal for transporting your kit, and Lowepro is one of the biggest names in the business. The PhotoStream RL 150 can carry your camera and lenses as well as accessories and a 15in laptop, too. The bag’s customisable dividers provide loads of options and a hinged front panel allows easy access to your laptop. It’s also carry-on friendly for airlines.

7 WIRELESS SYSTEM: SARAMONIC WIRELESS £92/$99 www.saramonic.com

PRO PERFORMERS A £5000 KIT FOR THE WORKING PRO

For professional talking head interviews, a wireless radio mic system is invaluable. Some cost hundreds as they offer lots of advanced features, but as a bargain option the Saramonic wireless kit works and is incredible value for money. It comes with a lavalier mic and transmitter unit that beams its signal wirelessly to the receiver, which plugs directly into the camera. It’s a four-channel unit with flexible antennas that can beam a signal for up to 60m/65 yards. It also runs on AA batteries and volume is controlled by a simple wheel. It’s not the most high-tech system but works surprisingly well for the price.
