A MONTHLY ROUND-UP OF GASTRO GOINGS-ON AROUND CAMBRIDGESHIRE Food News

Lab Report What do you get when you combine three doctors, a love of 1920s decor and a generous supply of booze? The Lab on Regent Street, that’s what! Run by Dr Tony Kouzarides and Dr Jason Mellad – both scientists – and Dr Peter Niemczuk, a medical doctor at Mill Road Surgery, The Lab is a cocktail bar with a twist. It opened in November 2018, quickly luring in punters with its sophisticated speakeasy vibe and science-themed tipples. Fast forward to today, and the venue has been relaunched with a fresh look and some exciting new additions, including dramatic, dry ice-topped drinks! Having expanded into the neighbouring building, the venue is now double the size, too, making it the perfect choice for a large gathering. COCKTAIL CHEMISTRY

Brix and Mortar in Whittlesford is offering diners a wood-fired feast this festive season, in the shape of its 2021 Christmas menu. Priced at £28 for two courses and £35 for three, dishes include the restaurant’s famous burrata (with fresh chilli and squash), and roast beef or turkey with all the trimmings. For dessert, you can go traditional with a Christmas pud drenched in brandy butter, or try something different: we think the panna cotta with honeyed figs and amaretti sounds like just the ticket after a big roast!
