REAL-TIME RESEARCH FROM DPP AND SIGNIANT The DPP has partnered with Signiant to launch a four-month research project into the development of remote and distributed working across the media industry during the course of the Covid-19 pandemic. The research aims to examine how companies are making structural adaptations to overcome some of the challenges caused by coronavirus lockdowns, as well as looking at personal journeys undergone by those in the industry. The DPP project will consist of a monthly survey made up of around 20 questions, which will be completed by companies from around the world and across the supply chain. The survey will be supported by a weekly ‘flash survey’ of around five questions, which is intended to take the emotion temperature of respondents. “We’re living through a key moment in world history and we know nothing

will ever be quite the same again,” said Mark Harrison, DPP managing director. “It’s important that we capture in real time how this crisis is changing the way we work. Research such as this will give us unique insights that will enable us to gain wisdom from an otherwise traumatic event.” Jon Finegold, Signiant chief marketing officer, added: “As Signiant solutions play a critical role in connecting the global media supply chain, we’re working hard to do our part to help the industry keep content flowing. The current pandemic has certainly magnified something we’ve always believed and that is ‘we are all in this together ’.’” Halfway through the research, the DPP will hold a virtual version of its DPP At Home event strand, exploring some of the emerging themes and to add some qualitative depth to the quantitative research. A full report is due to be published in July.

SINGULAR singular.live

Broadcast live on EA Sports’ Twitch channel and gaining a lot of attention from multiple other outlets, the event ran over five days and helped entertain a global football audience desperate to see some competitive football. EA wanted to help spread a simple message of Stay Home. Play Together. Singular, a cloud native platform for delivering graphics using intelligent overlays, worked with EA Sports and service providers Reality Check Solutions to deliver a full production, without graphics hardware needing to be purchased or shipped anywhere. The Singular platform requires no dedicated hardware or software, and is accessible from anywhere with no contracts or licences. It is compatible

with the many complimentary third-party platforms and services. Sean LaRrett, coordinating producer at EA for Fifa Competitive Gaming Broadcast, said: “The team at Singular worked tirelessly on custom graphics so we could integrate their workflow into our entirely remotely produced national TV broadcast of the EA Sports Fifa Stay and Play Cup. As a cloud-based platform, Singular was perfect for our needs and enabled us to get up and running in a short time frame. In addition, our operators could work from their homes.”

HIT PLAY TO VIEW REAL-TIME COVID-19 DATA EA Sports recently launched a new Stay and Play Cup, bringing together 20 professional footballers from 20 major European clubs in support of GlobalGiving’s Coronavirus Relief Fund. As part of the Stay and Play Cup, EA is donating US$1M to help support immediate and long-term relief and recovery in vulnerable communities most affected by Covid-19. The event led to a massive increase in Singular sign ups and new projects as the move to cloud-based and remote productions has accelerated due to Covid-19. The restrictions have given many clients the opportunity to road test things they have wanted to do for a while.

Singular has created an animated map visualising the US counties most affected by Covid-19. It pulls live data from Johns Hopkins, while also pulling from Worldometers to display real-time data about total cases in countries around the world. Visit: twitch.tv/live_singular/video/583587172
