HARMONIC FREES UP EYEQ TECH TO ADDRESS CONGESTION The current global health crisis has given rise to rapid growth in network traffic, resulting in strain across global broadband networks. To address this and support its customers, Harmonic is providing its EyeQ content-aware encoding technology for free while the Covid-19 crisis continues. Harmonic’s EyeQ technology leverages AI to reduce streaming congestion on broadband networks by up to 50% without impacting quality. The company says it will prove particularly useful in combatting the recent surge and is a step above recently utilised methods, such as resolution and bit rate reductions. Shahar Bar, senior VP of video products and corporate development at Harmonic, said: “The demand for high-quality streaming services has exploded and has led to excessive constraints on broadband networks. Adding our EyeQ technology to the mix can greatly decrease bandwidth consumption for high-quality video, alleviating strain on local and national broadband networks. “By offering free licences for the expected lockdown time frames, Harmonic is providing an effective tool to help media companies and broadband networks alike.” Ulrik Rohne, VP media networks at Net Insight, said: “Zixi’s software-defined video platform and best-of-breed protocol extends Net Insight’s ability to securely deliver broadcast-quality live video at scale for our customers, regardless of network, device or cloud infrastructure.” John Wastcoat, SVP alliances at Zixi, added: “We are thrilled to announce Net Insight as part of the Zixi-enabled network, facilitating interoperability of hundreds of devices, over 100 countries and 80,000 end-points across the world.”

Net Insight has said that this new content acquisition workflow needs to deliver on the premise of traditional professional media acquisition: high quality and reliability, low latency, hyper scaleability, and interoperability, as well as cost efficiency.

Net Insight is joining the Zixi-enabled network to strengthen its offering and better serve existing and new customers alike with interoperable content acquisition workflows. The move will also make it easier to acquire and distribute content over public clouds, such as AWS.
