for recording in Log, to squeeze every last bit of dynamic range from the sensor. Unfortunately, this isn’t the extended 13-stop V-Log L, as found in the Panasonic BGH1 box-style camera, but the 12-stop version. This is so it matches footage from the older GH5 for consistency. For a straight-out-of-camera option, there’s the new Cinelike D2 and Cinelike V2. Both offer a flatter image than standard. The D2 prioritises dynamic range, so is better suited to some post-production, while the V2 gives a filmic-like look. There are lots of other options, probably best suited to less experienced filmmakers. V-Log L is the best for dynamic range and easy to grade. Panasonic claims the new sensor has around a third more dynamic range than the GH5 – and we found nothing to disprove that. The GH5 II can also record HD up to 180fps for super slow-motion,

times there have been affordable anamorphic lenses on the market, suitable for crop-sensor cameras, such as the Sirui four-lens range. This means you can really deliver genuine anamorphic films on a budget – and shooting high- quality, creative films is what it’s all about. While many have abandoned anything less than full-frame sensors, it’s perhaps a pleasant shock to take a long look at what a modern MFT camera can produce. Obviously, the depth-of-field is different than on full-frame cameras, due to the focal length of the lenses being different, but the actual quality of the images is impressive. The high bit rate All-Intra codec packs the footage with information, meaning the GH5 II really does deliver astonishingly high-quality images, filled with natural colours and lots of detail. Shooting in 10-bit makes it much more suitable
