The Leys

he Leys is proud of its reputation as a ‘big, small school’ – big enough to offer a wealth of opportunities, yet small enough that every pupil is treated as an individual, known by staff and their peers and brought together in a cohesive and close-knit community. A blend of tradition and informality is key to enabling pupils to feel at ease, resulting in them leaving the school as confident, hard-working and purposeful young adults. As a Methodist school built on Wesleyan heritage, there are three foundation stones to a Leysian education: academic, the wider curriculum and pastoral care. The three are clearly interconnected, but pastoral care is seen as the most important, providing the springboard for achievement in all areas of school life.

A SPECIAL LOCATION The Leys is located in the heart of the city, a stone’s throw from one of the world’s greatest universities. The advantages of this are countless. Links with academic departments are strong, and the cultural and recreational benefits of being located at the centre of Cambridge are significant. The newly refurbished, award-winning boathouse is shared with King’s, Selwyn and Churchill Colleges, The Leys Chapel Choir regularly joins the top college choirs for evensong – and the annual Leavers’ Ball takes place in the grand surroundings of Queens’ College. The Cambridge Experience (CamEx) brings all of these opportunities together, providing pupils with an exceptional and varied education. WELLBEING Pupil wellbeing is at the heart of everything The Leys stands for. Students are encouraged to think about their physical and mental health, to be positive in their approach to work, ambitious regarding future plans and engaged with the world around them. This focus has been driven by the pupils who developed the school’s Mental Health Project. The house teams, medical centre, chaplain and staff have collaborated to encourage good mental health strategies, developing resources like the new wellbeing app and actively working with pupils, ensuring they leave with a set of core values that shape their view of the world and their place in it. ACADEMIC RESULTS Through the provision of a broad and balanced curriculum, The Leys continues to flourish academically. Summer 2023
