Cambridge Edition December 2019

ADVERT I SEMENT F EATURE

Saturday 7 December sees the return of Small Business Saturday, a yearly event that champions small business success and encourages consumers to shop local and celebrate the small businesses in their community. Cambridge BID supports the mission of this nationwide, grass roots campaign, which is now entering its seventh year in the UK and started life in 2010 in the US. Why not show your support by challenging yourself to shop at more small businesses this Christmas? Cambridge is bursting with fantastic smaller enterprises, from independent gift shops to unique market traders, and – who knows? – you might discover a new gem! smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

Trinity Street is very much at the heart of historic Cambridge, with its college history, and shops and restaurants to cherish. Heffers Bookshop, opposite Trinity College, has been trading since 1876 and, as well every kind of book you can think of, it has one of the widest selection of board games in the country. Games nights, author readings and kids’ activities are plentiful. The Michaelhouse Centre is home to a thriving cafe, hosts exhibitions of local creatives’ art and is used as a venue, too. The Ivy Cambridge Brasserie has a fab reputation for its food and it also has a wide range of cocktails, while you can also find delicious dishes at Trinity restaurant (the sister eatery of the Varsity Restaurant), with carefully sourced fish and meat, and a selection of oysters. If you’re looking for presents, Jacks on Trinity is a must, especially for Harry Potter fans and those looking for gifts that say ‘Cambridge’, while Up & Running is the place to go for running shoes and sports clothing of all kinds.
