DYNAMIC DUOS
EA: The more responsive you can be, the more likely you’re going to come away with something unique. DEF: Do you have any ideas or upcoming projects in the works? EA: I’d love to work on a feature with Tari. TS: I would do anything . EA: It has to involve taxidermy, though. Tari and I could make one hell of a horror film. I WASN’T AFRAID TO throw out an idea AND SEE WHERE IT LANDED”
TS: That’s sweet to hear. The cool thing about Eva is she’s always available on-set. I wasn’t afraid to throw out an idea and see where it landed. How we played with things shaped Margo . We were making the most of every shot. And almost all of our effects were practical.
a female DOP for these super sensitive scenes? And I happen to know one who’s incredible.” Being able to recommend a female DOP was a cool card I got to pull. We had an intimacy coordinator; you don’t realise how much falls under the purview of intimacy until you’re on a show like this. Elle Fanning is remarkable to work with because she is super comfortable with her own body, but she also has clear boundaries. If something’s crossing a line, she will say, “Nope, let’s stop there.” TS: We had some fun shooting the OnlyFans scenes with Elle. She was comfortable in the room and would play it up. From our perspective, there’s the female gaze and the male gaze, but this had to be more naïve. The character is a college student who just wants to do this thing, so all those filters have to go away. I felt confident that we were creating that atmosphere. DEF: What do you enjoy most about working with one another? EA: Well, we’re both creeps. We both have a thing for taxidermy. Tari would bring weird stuff to work. We have a lot of the same taste in terms of the grotesque and the bizarre, and Tari is just a fun hang. Professionally, you can trust Tari to pull off the impossible. Her ingenuity and passion for her craft is so evident, but she is also wonderful with the crew and the cast. People love working with Tari.
EA: I was raised on Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi movies. You can’t
beat the real thing.
TS: A lot of the show wasn’t meticulously planned. We’re in the environment, creating. It’s like painting.
