THE KIT DARREN OWNS

X-T2 BODY With a 24.3-megapixel X-Trans CMOS sensor, focus lever, 4K/30p video and advanced autofocus system, the X-T2 is a hugely capable camera and a cost-effective way to get into the X Series. Fujifilm released new firmware (4.32) in June, endowing the X-T2 with focus bracketing, high-speed Full HF video mode and enhanced phase detection autofocus with better low-light performance.

XF18-55MM F/2.8-4 R LM OIS Fujifilm offers a choice of standard zooms – this, and the XF16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR. You can’t go wrong, because they are both excellent. The XF18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS has the benefit of Fujifilm’s Optical Image Stabiliser with a 4EV benefit and it weighs in at 310g, so perfect when you want to travel light without compromising your shooting potential.

X-T2 VERTICAL POWER BOOSTER GRIP VPB-XT2

Increased shooting capacity and a performance boost mode (with longer 4K recording, shorter shutter lag, less blackout time and faster continuous shooting) gives the VPB-XT2 serious appeal. It has a headphone jack and the camera’s controls are repeated on the grip, so switching between horizontal and vertical shooting is seamless.

is a great feature to have as a backup. So, for example, at a wedding I can top up the batteries if I need to while everyone is sitting down and eating, then I’m ready to go again. Adding the grip makes the camera more comfortable for me, but when I want to travel really light and do some street photography, the grip comes off and on goes the XF23mm f/2 R WR lens. The X-T2 and 23mm lens is a fantastic combination for street photography. It doesn’t stand out like a DSLR and people think I have a simple point-and-shoot camera so ignore me. I would like to get the X-T4, because the autofocus is quicker than that in the X-T2 and that can mean the difference between getting the shot or not. It will be the cherry on the cake for me, and I’m looking forward to using the two Fujifilm cameras in tandem. I’ve just put the X-T4 in my shopping basket – but my wife doesn’t know that yet! – and I’ll be pushing the ‘buy’ button at the end of the month.
