ARRI ALEXA MINI BASED ON: from Season One as its main camera package DRAMA Ever since the pilot of the show was shot on film, Game of Thrones has used the Arri Alexa camera in most of its evolutions (including the Alexa Mini) to shoot the show, sometimes two cameras, two units and sometimes four cameras and one unit. Jonathan Freeman, DOP on nine episodes including the finale, commented, “We shot with the Alexa all the way through, also using the Cooke S4s all through the show as the Primes, and we used Angénieux for the zooms. We basically stayed with that combination from Season One. It was really the first camera that cinematographers felt confident was a pretty comparable camera system to film. Then of course you get the benefits of digital cinematography, which are more challenging for film.” Game Of Thrones has used the ARRI Alexa camera
