It can be plugged into the mains and used as a focusable hard light for a crisp look or – by fitting broncolor light-shaping tools – transformed into a very different light source. From softboxes and umbrellas, to beauty dishes, reflectors and snoots, the LED F160 is a truly versatile lamp that creates beautifully soft and flattering light with incredible control. And if there is no AC power on hand, it can work on location with a small, powerful battery. Broncolor is a Swiss company that makes some of the most highly respected photography lights, used by rental studios and top professionals for decades. That’s why broncolor decided its LED F160 should combine perfectly with its existing light- shaping accessories, and designed the filmmaking LED lamp to work as a point light source. Modifying a light source eats into its effective brightness, but the F160 is very powerful, with 13,800 lumens on offer, despite pulling only 160W. The output is roughly equivalent to a 600W tungsten. The light’s output power can be adjusted over a five-stop range in 0.1-stop increments, which is displayed on a handy OLED screen. This also displays colour temperature from 2800 to 6800K, which can be adjusted in steps of 50K, and the tint can be altered from green to magenta. A single button on the rear overrides these settings and toggles between daylight and tungsten for quick changes.
