specific version of a current mirrorless stills camera. It’s

all of this that made the camera an overnight, sell-out success. Fast forward a year and Blackmagic moves those goalposts by a large amount, by revealing the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. But instead of just cramming more pixels onto its MFT sensor, there’s a brand new Super35 CMOS sensor, again with dual native ISO; a fully- connected Canon EF lens mount sits in front of it to take the glass. At first glance the bodies look identical, but the 6K version is 15.2mm/0.6in wider, although the same height and length as the 4K version. And like the 4K, the new camera is made from carbon fibre composite (it actually feels a little plasticky). We had no issues during the test, however, with all the doors and controls feeling good, and carbon fibre is light and strong.

IMAGES The Super35 sensor is a huge boost to the camera. It works best with manual focus cine lenses like these Samyang optics

designed for making movies, with such fantastic spec as a huge, five- inch screen that means you can often forgo an external monitor, and a USB-C output so you can record up to 12-bit to inexpensive external SSD drives. Like real cinema cameras, a dual-native ISO is ideal for low light, and 13 stops of dynamic range are perfect for HDR images. With a full-size HDMI socket, a mini-XLR input with phantom power for professional mics, all sorts of ProRes 422 internal recording codecs and built-in LUTs, plus timecode and zebra pattern for monitoring, it was really in a class of its own. Especially at just £1055/$1295, which includes a full version of DaVinci Resolve software that usually cost £275/$299. It was
