Next month, Cambridge will welcome the festive season with two Christmas lights switch-on events GET READY TO SPARKLE!
M arking the official countdown to Christmas, two events in November are set to kickstart the festive season in Cambridge, bringing together residents, visitors, businesses and communities for a celebration of everything the city has to offer at Christmas. 12 NOVEMBER Station Square Christmas Lights Switch On, 4.30-7pm (‘switch-on’ moment at 6.30pm) Step into Christmas as we turn on the lights at Cambridge train station. Delivered by Cambridge BID and hosted by Josh Lovatt, expect festive-themed quizzes, prize giveaways and local band The Los Amigos playing a mix of original music, upbeat covers and Christmas classics. The ‘switch- on’ moment is at 6.30pm and then you can take photos with our illuminated Christmas bauble and enjoy a walkabout from the Ruby Flames live event entertainment and circus performance company. 15 NOVEMBER The BIG Christmas Lights Switch On Market Square, 12-5.30pm (‘switch- on’ moment at 5pm) Three days later, attention will turn to Market Square for Cambridge’s BIG Christmas Lights Switch On, delivered by Cambridge BID and again hosted by Josh Lovatt. One of the highlights of the city’s festive calendar, the event will see the heart of Cambridge come alive with entertainment and activities as crowds gather for the countdown to the moment the city’s Christmas lights are officially
switched on (at 5pm). Don’t miss the announcement of Cambridge BID’s Mystery Shop winners, crowd games, giveaways and entertainment by Ruby Flames performers in LED costumes. Local bands and performances on the stage will include 4D Dance, Next Gen Noise, Safira Pinder, On-Stage Performing Arts, Tom Korni, Razzmatazz, Vocal Remix, Cores do Samba, Sing! Choirs as well as the ADC Theatre. “Christmas in Cambridge is always incredibly special, and our switch-on events are a fantastic way to bring people together and officially welcome the festive season to the city,” says Jenny Granshaw, head of projects and development at Cambridge BID. “These events form an important part of Cambridge BID’s work to create experiences that bring people into the city, support our businesses and make Cambridge vibrant and welcoming.” The switch-on events mark the start of a packed festive period, with Christmas shopping, seasonal food and drink, entertainment and experiences across the city throughout November and December.
