cases. Inside, a variety of protection methods are available – from Peli’s lightweight padded dividers to Pick N Pluck foam. The Atomos Ninja V+ is the clear winner of our monitor and/ or recorders class for the second year. It has a five-inch touchscreen featuring waveforms, false colour, vectorscope, focus peaking, instant zoom and anamorphic de-squeeze. The V+ model has a more powerful chip inside, to allow for 8K/30p and 4K/120p ProRes Raw recording. It can also capture Apple ProRes Raw direct from many mirrorless cameras. Joined with the right accessories, the monitor may be turned into a fully connected system using the latest Atomos Cloud Studio. Lexar’s Professional CFexpress Type B Diamond-series card sets a new high, as it reaches read speeds of up to 1900MB/s. Plus, its write speed of up to 1700MB/s is ideal for the latest crop of memory-hungry cameras, as it can capture Raw 8K, 6K and 4K video with ease. That’s why it’s our winner. In the hard drive category, the victor proves radical innovation pays dividends. Seagate’s Lyve Mobile solution comes with a fast hard drive you have to rent,

which then merges with cloud communication and storage. On location, footage is stored on Lyve Mobile Arrays. Back at base, this is quickly transferred to Lyve’s modular storage racks, then uploaded to the Lyve Cloud – all in superfast time. The cost is flexible, as you only pay for Lyve Mobile storage devices you need – for however long you need them. The final category is for editing software – and it’s cloud capability that defined the winner – Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 18 Studio. As well as incredible colour, audio and editing functions, Resolve 18 provides connection to Blackmagic Cloud Store to help real-time collaborative editing.

Workhorse 19 won best backpack/ holdall. As a traditionally shaped camcorder bag, a rigged-up camera can be lowered inside so the kit is always ready for use. While it is available in different sizes, the 19 model fits camera rigs up to 48.3cm/19in long and 19cm/7.5in tall. It’s built with an aluminium-reinforced collapsible lid, the material itself is ballistic nylon and there’s YKK zips, welded metal hardware, nylon seatbelt webbing and high-density foam for protection. For ultimate security, look at the roller and hard case category, where – once again – the legendary Peli took the lead, with the 1646 Air. It is one of the latest in a range of deeper cases that offer stunning protection at a light weight. It’s made from high-impact plastic resin to withstand extreme temperatures, with rounded corners to fend off impacts. There’s a large O-ring seal, the latches are tough and it’s fitted with stainless steel hinge pins. The Air range is much lighter than same-sized standard Peli
