focusing mechanism, sliding the lens forward and back. Project a sharp- or soft-edged image circle, then use the four independent shutters around the unit to change the circle into a rectangle, slit, vertical line or any other four-sided shape you want.
Inside the large and relatively heavy projector is a set of lenses that adjust forward and back, to focus or defocus the image. The unit has an aluminium alloy metal body, plus a new yoke with both 5/8in baby mount and 1-1/8in junior pin fitments. Weighing in at 4.2kg/9.26lb, with the 19° lens 3.8kg/8.38lb, together that’s 8kg/17.64lb – even before mounting to an LED. We used the Forza 720 head, which is another 4.8kg/10.58lb. That’s a lot of bulk to load on top of a light stand – and not easy to handle up there. Nanlite’s FZPJBM projection attachment comes inside a custom flight case and includes a set of four ‘B’-sized gobos, creating light patterns and texture to backgrounds and layers to images – as well as a gel frame that’s easily added to the front of the unit. This is ideal for picking out a tiny bit of interest on-set. Standard-sized gobos will project all kinds of silhouettes – like fake window blinds, a bit of foliage or a starburst effect. There are hundreds of these on offer, attainable through studio suppliers.
