VIRTUALISING TENNIS
The All England Club launched Race to Wimbledon, a Fortnite challenge meant to engage younger tennis fans during the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. The race sees Fortnite players complete a course that includes several London landmarks, like Big Ben, the London Eye and Wimbledon Village itself. The latter features iconography associated with the tournament, such as strawberries and tennis racquets. Players compare their results against those of Olympic gold medallist Andy Murray, with winners entered into a draw for tickets, travel and lodging for the next summer’s Wimbledon Championships. Fans can also enjoy online representations of Wimbledon via WimbleWorld, Roblox, Wimbledon Smash and Tennis Clash.
RAKING IN REVENUE
EA has upped its Fifa in-game purchase prices by an average of 14.5% – an increase that could amount to an additional £7 million in revenue for the gaming titan. Last year, EA earned a whopping-great £4.9 billion from its in-game purchases. Despite the higher costs, 67% of players will continue to purchase Fifa points – that’s according to a report by online entertainment website casino.org.

DIGITAL LOVE
The Swiss Football League (SFL) has selected Origins Digital to spearhead two digital transformation projects. In hopes to fully digitise by 2027, the SFL will offer both a consumer-facing and intra-league platform. The first project – a new website for SFL fans – will host articles, photos, videos, club statistics and player data. The second – a centralised platform for SFL clubs – will provide a state-of-the-art match centre, complete with widgets as well as second- screen capabilities. “Our mission is to create unparalleled online experiences that put fans at the heart of the action,” said Steve Heymann, global head of sales at Origins Digital.
