B oarding schools in our area continue to score incredibly highly for their great looks. From the pretty castle setting of Kimbolton School to the attractive 200- acre campus at Gresham’s, Wymondham College’s 83-acre estate hidden away in the stunning Norfolk countryside to the scenic city-centre appeal of The Leys, it’s no wonder so many of these locations also double as wedding venues. But the lasting attraction of these schools is down to so much more than their breathtaking appearance.

All aboard! Charlotte Phillips explores the enduring appeal of boarding schools and the institutions in our area making a difference

Boarding today, as the schools and families will confirm, is bang up to date, putting the whole family at its centre. “Whether pupils are full-time boarders or more flexible weekly ones, they all benefit from a supportive culture that helps them flourish on their school journey,” confirms Rudolf Eliott Lockhart, CEO of the Independent Schools Association. As family life has evolved, so too have our boarding schools. Perhaps most important is the fact that the way boarding is structured is – if not infinitely flexible – remarkably varied.
