LIGHT FINDS A WAY Rammy Anwar of G6 Motion Control makes the impossible a reality every time he steps on set – and he relies on Light & Motion’s StellaPro range to do it
IN THE WORLD of film production, innovation is everything. On one side of the cutting edge, you have a company like Light & Motion, with more than 30 years of experience and branches in bike safety, scuba diving, as well as cameras and cinematography. On the other, there’s G6 Motion Control, who hit the scene only two years ago, but struck major chords ever since. G6 co-owner and technical manager, Rammy Anwar, has been using Light & Motion’s StellaPro LEDs in extraordinary ways for some time. “Our area of motion control uses robotic arms that are available off the shelf. We just modify the software and hardware to give them even greater potential. That’s the tough bit,” Anwar laughs. “A big part of my role is visual engineering. A director or DOP may come to me and say, ‘I have a shot in mind, but I’m not sure how to execute it,’ and then we use
our specialist tools, and custom fabrications when needed, to bring that idea to life. “Our arms can move at 4m/s and are accurate to 0.02mm, which you just couldn’t achieve through any other means.” Of course, this potential would be wasted were it not for kit that can keep up. That’s where Anwar’s love of the StellaPro lights comes in. “The StellaPro CLx10s are perfect to have in my arsenal. They’re small, light, portable, efficient, powerful and versatile. But they shine brightest in tough situations. “Mounting on the robotic arms is just one example of that, but it’s a big one. These arms have a max payload which rules out a lot of lights immediately. Many other LEDs just aren’t rugged enough, and when they are, they aren’t very bright. I don’t know where else you can find everything the StellaPro lights offer in one package.” Among Anwar’s countless positive experiences, a few stand out above the rest. One commercial shoot was saved entirely by his StellaPro CLx10s. “On the set of a cereal advertisement, the creative team wanted to show the cereal
