The RHS photographic competition offers free entry and cash prizes await the winners

Historic Photographer of theYear 2019 winners announced

The Historic Photographer of the Year 2019 competition – supported by History Hit, Historic England, History TV channel, Trip Historic, the Association for Historical Fine Art Photography, and All About History – has been outstanding. Entries were judged on originality, composition and technical proficiency alongside the story behind each shot and its historical impact. The overall winner was Stéphane Hurel’s Have camera, will travel

photograph of the ruins of the Arromanches Mulberry harbour in Normandy; the Historic England category was won by JP Appleton with his shot of the Roker Pier. History’s Short Filmmaker of the Year was awarded to Dibs McCallum for a documentary exploring the remains of RAF Barnham’s nuclear weapons storage facility. TALK is a newmental health charity with a focus on the therapeutic qualities of creativemediums. It has just announced its first competition, the TALK 2020 PhotographyAwards. The overall winner scoops imaging products donated by Rotolight, Zeiss and Sony, with a total worth of £4500. The theme is ‘mental health’ and it is up to entrants to interpret that theme and what it means to them. It costs £10 to enter one image, £25 for three and £50 for eight, with all proceeds going to TALK. Full details are on the website. The top 15 entries will feature in amonth- long exhibition at theWEXPhotoVideo store inManchester, and each finalist will receive an engraved award.
