FEED Winter 2022 Newsletter

FEED: Your proudest achievement? ANNA LOCKWOOD: Longevity! I love that I’ve been in the industry a long time; I’ve contributed to and experienced great sporting moments, tech breakthroughs and events. I hope to stay in the sports business for many years to come, at least through Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games! MEL McDERMOTT: Personally, my proudest moment while working in this industry was launching our dynamic content insertion tech, which allowed us to scale up our concurrency capabilities without increasing channels – and brought personalisation to the viewer. I had been fortunate enough to get involved in the development of our integration and played a key part in everything, from SOW to vendor selection and system design. I recall visiting IBC at the start of the project and explaining to the biggest (and smallest!) vendors what we were trying to achieve and being told we were utterly crazy and how it ‘could never be possible’! Now, six years after launch, we have paved the way for dynamic

delivery – and for other OTT broadcasters to challenge themselves to build products outside of their comfort zones. SARAH ADAMS: Being part of the team that returned Premier League football coverage after Covid-19. We had to get the Premier League back on people’s TVs in a safe way after it had been paused. It was great to have my ideas and technical knowledge listened to. It was such a huge sense of achievement to see it come back on the air – remotely at the galleries in Osterley – all while creating multiple new workspaces that allowed people to work safely in unprecedented circumstances. The team achieved so much in such a short space of time. At its peak, we were doing

four games a day – two remote and two traditional OB – all presented through the Osterley facilities. EMILY BERGUN: Last year, I gave a presentation at the SMPTE Young Innovators and Emerging Talent evening. It was my first time presenting anything professionally, let alone to so many peers and people I admire from the industry. I was incredibly nervous, unsure if I was even capable of delivering the presentation. However, on the night itself I got to speak with so many university students who were genuinely interested in and inspired by my work. Given I was only a student myself a couple of years before, it really reminded me how far I’ve come – and in a very short space of time.
