means that the window allocated to a broadcast or systems integrator client closes before a solution is successfully delivered, causing irksome delays. One of the reasons why Lawo is held in such high esteem in the industry is that its response time is consistently fast. True to its can-do, will- do mantra, the project and support teams at Lawo focus on removing roadblocks and happily cooperate with all relevant parties to get the job done. There is, after all, little point in delivering the finest hardware and software – and implementing the overarching standards – when the system as a whole doesn’t deliver. Until it does, the technology is more or less irrelevant. We need to remember that, in a multi-vendor IP infrastructure, apparent issues with one vendor’s device may very well be caused by a hardware or software tool from another vendor. The client naturally assumes that something is wrong with a device in perfect working order, and argues that they don’t want to have to fuss with individual boxes – they want a whole set-up that serves their needs. IP IS STILL THE FUTURE One might argue that life was a lot easier before IP took the world by storm. However, ask around about who is seriously considering going back to the days of bulky patch bays, heavy snakes and the impossibility to use off-premises processing and control resources. Consecutive live productions from two or more stadiums with the same production team would

vanish. You would need to hire several, complete on-site teams, a lot more gear – and you would have to use several satellite uplinks. The same is true of multi-location election-night coverage and all the patch changes this involves. There is a lot more to be gained from using IP-based production scenarios. IP may still be new – and even scary to some – but it has become a fact of life for manufacturers like Lawo, production service providers and broadcasters, as well as private or public corporations. Finding solutions quickly is a lot easier when you can count on a dedicated team of experienced specialists, some of whom get downright excited when there is a tough nut to crack. What is certainly true, is that their experience allows them to avoid known pitfalls at the planning stage. Depending on the service level agreement, this may not come for free, but that is a minor concern when a newscast picked up by five radio stations is all but unintelligible due to some ghastly metallic LAWO TEAMS FOCUS ON COOPERATION AND REMOVING ROAD BLOCKS
