SAVOUR & SIP

SPRING SOCIAL Launching this spring, Northstowe Tap & Social is set to make waves. “We are extremely excited to be creating something fantastic in Northstowe! With great access by car, bus or bike for local villages – plus Huntingdon, St Ives and Cambridge – the space will be somewhere you’ll want to hang out all day, work remotely with us and bring in your kids, dogs and pals,” says operations manager Alex White. Built with an overriding emphasis on all things local, as well as a huge passion for craft beer and independent breweries, the site will boast 21 taps on a rolled selection plus canned beers to take away (fear not, there are selected wines too). The foodie offering is equally attractive, with an in-house bakery serving freshly baked bread and pastries using local seasonal produce every day of the week, washed down with great-quality coffee from Wood Street Coffee. In addition, the Northstowe team will be collaborating with local legend Steak & Honour, which will be on-site serving its famous burgers and Dot’s Hot Chicken. Its barbecue van will also be making an appearance, smoking meats for lunchtime subs. And, after hours, oodles of comforting foodie fare will available, making the perfect accompaniment for great beer. With vast glass windows, the space will be full of light, ideal for the upstairs area which hosts a fully equipped function room plus a timetable of fitness and wellness classes. “Throughout the year, we plan on hosting events to support the local community and have some fun! Trust us, you are all going to love it.” Built by a team passionate about bringing people and all their strengths and ideas together, Northstowe Tap & Social welcomes hearing from those who are interested in partnering. Saffron Grange Sparkles with New Blanc de Noirs Local boutique, family-run vineyard Saffron Grange has launched its 2019 Blanc de Noirs. This sparkling wine is made from a blend of two rare grape varieties grown at Saffron Grange – consisting of 60% pinot noir and 40% pinot meunier – both dating from the summer of 2019. “We only harvest our grapes by hand; this is a wine that demands a gentle handling,” shares manager Nick Edwards. “Since it’s made with only red grapes, it’s rich, full-bodied and will only continue to develop with age.” The driest brut in the Saffron Grange portfolio, the Blanc de Noirs has a delicious biscuitiness on the nose with hints of toasted almonds and a rich, full palate. “That is the result of a fantastic year for winemaking,” he adds. Try a glass at Parker’s Tavern, order online at saffrongrange.com or take a trip to the vineyard itself.
