Nanlite’s new bicolour FS-60B studio LED COB light is compact and comes with a similarly small price tag of just £186/$179. That’s simply incredible value for a reasonably powerful COB light that offers a CCT range of 2700- 6500K, weighs just 850g/1.87lb and has an all-in-one design. All you need to do is plug in the suitably long mains power lead and you’re ready to go. Unlike the more expensive Forza range, the FS lights do not come with a separate power block that takes mains power or batteries. That is why the light fixtures can be made even more cost-effectively. And the FS-60B doesn’t come in a fitted case with lots of extras like some of the more expensive fixtures in the range. The FS-60B uses Nanlite’s small FM mount, but a full-size Bowens mount adapter is included. Umbrella mounts are also incorporated into the yoke and Bowens adapter. It does come with an FM-mount mini reflector and a COB protective cap, though. The head itself is sized at just 247x134x87mm/9.72x5.23x3.43in, making it great for smaller spaces or hiding on-set. It pumps out 6228 lumens/13,360 lux of 5600K daylight- balanced light at 1m, with CRI and TLCI ratings of 96 and 97.

One dial sets the dimming and another adjusts colour temperature, with settings displayed on a small OLED. Power is dimmable in 1% increments, which is useful. Built-in Bluetooth allows for control via Nanlink’s smartphone app. There is also 2.4G wireless for use with Nanlite’s WS-RC-C2 remote and a quiet, onboard fan. A total of 12 practical effects can be customised via the app with ease. In use, the unit is diminutive, easy and quick. The light output is accurate and power is decent. It works efficiently for hair lights or separation lights. Of course, something this small isn’t going to be powerful enough to illuminate a massive double-diffusion softbox, but it has a good go. It works best with smaller softboxes or lanterns if you want soft light. It’s an entry-level price for a light with far more advanced features and quality than anything so inexpensive has a right to offer. This brings COB technology and performance down to a fair price, and chances are it will be a huge seller. PRO MOVIEMAKER RATING: 9/10 Incredibly affordable, great performer Pros: Bright and consistent Cons: No battery option
