On the ball So important is sport to our schools’ curriculum and extracurricular timetable, its scope and approach are now wider than ever before S port at school matters. And yes, that might sound like restating the blindingly

leadership, communication, resilience and responsibility. And when teams do well, there is tangible proof in the form of polished trophies, the centrepiece of many a school reception area. Recent successes in our region are many and varied, spanning netball, hockey and cross country, with teams from state and private schools regularly powering ahead in tournaments at local, regional

and national level. Name a sport and, more likely than not, there will be at least one school in our area – and often many more – out there diligently forging a name for themselves with talent and commitment. One visible benefit of sporting success is that it can bring school communities together, cementing bonds through that shared sense of celebration – and sometimes

obvious, but as anyone involved in the business of adding literal get- up-and-go to children’s education will tell you, it’s something that bears repetition. Sport delivers a cornucopia of sought-after and desirable skills, many of them catnip to employers, from a sense of belonging to
