AERIAL FILMMAKER NEWS

ShutterstockpartnerswithDroneBase

Shutterstock has just announced a content distribution deal with DroneBase, the world’s largest drone service provider. The new agreement will make hundreds of high-quality 4K videos produced by DroneBase’s worldwide pilot network available to Shutterstock’s 1.8 million customers. What makes this such a valuable partnership is the fact that DroneBase has such an extensive global network of pilots, based in all 50 US states and over 70 countries. Traditionally, DroneBase has serviced numerous commercial and residential real estate clients as well as media companies like Reuters, and so the breadth of material that’s been filmed will appeal to a multitude of markets. From a soaring bird’s-eye view of the biggest cities in the world to views from above a desolate island floating in clear blue waters, all of this immersive content will now be available to license for commercial use. This kind of footage is increasingly in high demand, and the new link up is expected to generate some vibrant and exciting new revenue streams. www.shutterstock.com www.dronebase.com

NEWPARROT TAKES TO THE AIR

Parrot is targeting market leader DJI with its latest high-tech foldable drone, the Anafi. Available now for £649/$699, it’s ultra-compact, robust and features four foldable arms that can be extended ready for flight and put away in less than three seconds. It’s also remarkably light, weighing in at just 320g/0.7lbs, thanks to a

unique assembly of carbon fibre filled with hollow glass microbeads. The accompanying Parrot Skycontroller 3 remote control is similarly discreet, unfolding in one second and then automatically connecting. The onboard optics are likewise state of the art. The Anafi films in 4K HDR – said to make it the only drone on the market with this capability – and 4K Cinema (4096x2160). There are three video modes to choose from, 4K Cinema at 24fps, 4K UHD at 24, 25, and 30fps and 1080p at 24, 25, 30, 48, 50 or 60fps. The camera can also record up to 21-megapixel still images. The on-board gimbal has three-axis stabilisation and features a vertical tilt of -90° to 90° and a horizontal tilt from -40° to 40° to ensure

stabilisation of the horizon, whatever the flight conditions. In addition, digital stabilisation provides +5° to 5° EIS in the direction of flight, while the system limits the angular vibration to 0.004° for what’s said to be super- stable footage. The lens meanwhile is a lossless zoom of x1.4 in 4K and x2.8 in full HD (1080p), recording on to the latest generation Sony 21-megapixel IMX230 sensor and an Ambarella video processor. Powering the new UAV is a smart polymer lithium battery, optimised to obtain the best power density in a small volume and a high rate of discharge. This in turn allows the Anafi to achieve a flight time of up to 25 minutes. www.parrot.com
