There’s no doubt that Sony has taken the mirrorless camera market by storm over the past few years, so if you’re looking to ditch your DSLR this Christmas, you could pick up a great combo in the shape of the Sony A7 III and E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS. The full-frame A7 III is Sony’s all-rounder model, but that doesn’t mean it disappoints in any way. In fact, it’s an incredibly versatile camera, with a back-illuminated 24.2-megapixel sensor and up to 10fps shooting, as well as Sony’s amazing subject tracking AF. Twinned with the E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS, you get a versatile 5.8x everyday zoom lens covering a 27-158mm equivalent range. The lens’ power zoom (PZ) feature results in smooth and silent operation, meaning it’s just as great for stills as it is for video, while the Optical SteadyShot (OSS) feature keeps pictures sharp at slow shutter speeds. *Prices are correct at mpb.com at the time of going to print and are subject to change. Laowa 11mm f/4.5 FF RL

If you fancy picking up a lens with a difference, check out Laowa’s ultra-wide 11mm f/4.5 FF RL. Available in Sony FE-, Nikon Z, Leica L- and M-mounts, it offers an amazing 126° angle of view, making it a great choice for landscapes, travel or cramped interiors. Moreover, it has a minimum focusing distance of just 19cm, so you can get some great close-ups, too. Small and light at 254g, and with manual focusing, it uses 14 elements in ten groups, with two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements to give great sharpness and minimise distortions. Unlike many super-wide lenses, it also accepts 62mm screw-in filters. The five-bladed aperture design also gives stunning ten-point sunstars, perfect to capture those Christmas lights!

Perfect for creative still life projects at home this winter, or as a handy travel tripod, the Novo Mantis T3 Mini Tripod is an ultra compact model, measuring just 215mm long when closed and weighing just 500g. Its small size doesn’t mean it skimps on build quality and features, though. Made from aviation-grade and carbon fibre, its multi-angle legs use twist locks and its rubber feet can be swapped for spikes. It supports loads up to 5kg, and comes with a five-year warranty.

Canon imagePrograf Pro-300

According to many, mirrorless cameras are the way forward and looking at Nikon’s Z 7II, it’s not hard to see why. Recently announced, along with the Z 6II, it features the same 45.7-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, a range of ISO 64-25,600 and five-axis IBIS system as on the Z 7, but there have been some powerful upgrades under the hood. The Z 7II uses dual expeed processors – a first for Nikon – with the extra grunt increasing frame rate to 10fps and improving AF tracking performance, including human and animal eye tracking. There’s also twin card slots this time around, for XQD/ CFexpress or SD media. It shoots 4K 60p or Full HD 120p slow-motion video, as well as pro-spec N-Log, HDR and Raw output. All in all, this makes it a real imaging powerhouse. Nikon Z 7II

Revel in printing your best shots this winter with Canon’s brand-new imagePrograf Pro- 300. Despite its compact footprint, the Pro-300 has a maximum print size of A3+ and offers borderless printing, even on fine-art media, as well as panoramic output up to 99cm in length. The model boasts enhanced colour gamut for greater depth and it uses ten Lucia Pro pigment inks, including a matte black, to deliver rich and faithful images. Its intelligent system checks the density levels of the ink tanks and shakes them to achieve a consistent flow. Colour accuracy is guaranteed by the included Canon Professional Print and Layout (PPL) software and plug-in, which can be used with Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom. See the First test in this issue.

ThinkTank Airport Advantage XT

We’re all hoping to do more travelling in 2021, and you can get set for that by adding a high- quality roller bag to your Christmas list, like Think Tank’s Airport Advantage XT. This roller has a large 33.8x45.7x19.1cm internal capacity, so it’s capable of holding a lot of camera kit or splitting the space between that and other gear, like lights or drones. The bag itself is light, at 3.1kg, and moves freely on its composite wheels with an extra tall handle to make steering it much easier. Along with its durable build, it also boasts lockable YKK zips for extra security. Inside, there are lots of options for storing batteries, cards, filters and all the other small accessories you may have.
