One for all With lighting kit for image creators of all disciplines, it’s no surprise broncolor has nominations in several categories of the PN Awards
A PROFESSIONAL QUALITY product that fulfils virtually every professional lighting need, from a brand you trust: these happen to be just some of broncolor’s greatest strengths. As such, it’s no surprise that a number of the brand’s products have been nominated for this year’s Photography News 2020 Awards.
The nominations represent more than awards, they symbolise a world of opportunities for photographers, professionals and video makers. We’ve put the broncolor F160 forward as the Best LED Light, while on the flash front, the Siros 400 L has the potential to claim Best Portable Flash. Also, the Siros 400 S is a contender for Best Mains Flash. To find out just what makes them so worthy of awards, we put them under the figurative microscope. Continuously impressive There are as many creative possibilities to use a continuous LED as there are practical reasons, though that applies to few as clearly as the broncolor F160 LED lamp. Before work with the camera even begins, an LED gives a perfect representation of a shot to the eye, whether you’re shooting portraits, macro subjects, products or anything else. There’s a beautiful simplicity to that.
“Tomeet a range of creative needs, broncolor offers a huge range ofmodifiers”
LEDs often come with a distinct lack of shapable control, but that’s far from the case with the F160. The light is focusable and features the same bayonet modifier mount as all of broncolor’s flash units, meaning a wide range of shapers and accessories can be attached for that necessary creative control. Placing even more freedom in your hands, the F160 features stepless power adjustment up to a maximum flicker-free brightness of 12,000 lumens. Additionally, colour temperature can be adjusted between 2800K and 6800K, with an assuring high colour rendering index of 97+. When it comes to user interface, features such as colour temperature can be manually controlled, though full control is offered via the free bronControl app or via industry standard DMX. With mains power as standard, and the option of a battery pack, all this potential can be harnessed quite literally anywhere that is required. Get up and go For ambitious professionals who require a powerful and versatile flash but can’t be tied down to mains power, the broncolor Siros 400 L may be the perfect option. The battery- powered monolight can be moved around the studio without restriction or taken outdoors to meet whatever challenge is thrown at it. Flash output can be adjusted across its 9EV range from a minimum of two up to 400Ws in
full or 1/10 stop increments. That is made all the more powerful by precisely crafted shapers, while reliability is ensured by way of the light’s capacity for up to 440 full power flashes on single charge. The broncolor 400 L’s HS function allows users to sync flash with fast shutter speeds up to 1/8000sec. Even in bright, ambient daylight, the HS capabilities allow for dominant flash effects, so there’s never a need to compromise. With an impressive 0.03secs minimum recycle time and continuous shooting of sequences up to 50 flashes, the Siros can certainly keep up during even the most rapid shoots. To get started, all that’s required is the RFS 2.2 trigger, available for Nikon, Canon and Sony cameras. Flash power The broncolor Siros 400 S is the brand’s mains powered option, designed for a slightly more predictable studio environment. The 400 S shares many of the same impressive specs as the 400 L, with the obvious added benefit of limitless use, ideal for longer portrait sittings, extensive product shoots and more.
Wherever you take the Siros 400 S, you can be assured of ease of use, thanks to the light’s ability to adapt automatically to AC mains of 100-120V and 200-240V. At 230V, a slightly faster recycle time of 0.02secs can be enjoyed, with the same sequence of 50 flashes. To meet a range of creative needs, broncolor offers a huge range of modifiers. The 400 S comes with an umbrella reflector, though more focused reflectors, honeycombs, softboxes, beauty dishes and more are all available to be made the most of. All are interchangeable between broncolor lights. For the greatest ease possible during use, the lamp features a single rotary controller at its rear, in addition to the full control that can be had via broncolor’s advanced app. Even for experienced image creators, there’s always more to learn, but this couldn’t be easier, thanks to the brand’s range of light- specific guides. Educational content, from technique to technical insight, is available for free on the website. Ultimately, we’d say it’s clear – stick with broncolor and you may just be on to a winner. manfrotto.co.uk/broncolor
