SAVOUR & SIP

NEW HOME FOR COTTO A new chapter has begun for Cotto, one of Cambridge’s most esteemed dining establishments, which has taken up residency at Cambridge Country Club in Bourn. Helmed by master chef Hans Schweitzer, the offering will range from casual dining in the Spikes Bar to Sunday roasts and afternoon teas in the Cotto Lounge, as well as evening fine dining and private events in the Garden Suite. A well-loved restaurant on East Road for years, before a more recent residency in the Gonville Hotel, Cotto has many fans in the city thanks to Hans’ unique cooking style. Awarded the title of Kuchenmeister at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, he’s had an illustrious career, cheffing around the globe for high-profile diners including the Queen, presidents, dignitaries and all sorts of celebrities. With exciting menus that combine classic technique and contemporary approach, he is keen to showcase the finest fresh local produce infused with seasonal influences. “We enjoyed a tremendously successful few years in the centre of Cambridge,” he says. “When Covid-19 hit, we took a break and decided to move to the countryside. Now, we’re in Bourn which is absolutely stunning.”

CAMBRIDGE CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL

A celebration of cocoa in all its forms comes to the city this month, as Cambridge Chocolate Festival returns for its biggest event yet. Taking place on 11 and 12 February in the Cambridge Union’s Debating Chamber, the event will feature 15 stalls, ranging from Ely favourite Anisa & Chocolate, to Suffolk’s award- winning bean-to-bar chocolatier Tosier Chocolate. Expect a handful of non-edible treats from the likes of plant shop Small & Green and Amber B Pottery, as well as artists from the local area. Things kick off on Friday 10 February with an opening-night reception featuring decadent cocktails at The Orator, while the event proper begins on the Saturday, offering music, prizes, goody bags and lots more. If you fancy getting hands-on, check out the line-up of workshops, which includes traditional hot chocolate making with La Latina Bustaurante, a terrarium class with Small & Green and a cacao ceremony with Mama Bombon.
