Opened a few years ago, the dedicated centre for STEAM subjects disrupts the narrative that students must choose between science and the arts early on. By teaching these disciplines side by side, pupils can use knowledge from one creatively in others. Creativity and original thinking have always been the cornerstones of a Gresham’s education; the Dyson Building establishes state-of-the-art facilities to see this continue into the mid-21st century. Pupils have the time and space to engage in creative projects and take different approaches to problem solving, learn to work collaboratively, understand how to turn ideas into reality and develop decision-making skills. The Dyson Building is equipped with the latest technology, laboratories, art and design facilities, an exhibition space and open-stair seating which turns the spine of the building into an area for collaboration. Extracurricular activities give pupils opportunities to tinker and discover new skills, including building and operating electric cars and drones, competing internationally with VEX robotics kits and more.
