THE KIT JEREMYOWNS
FUJIFILM X-T3 The Fujifilm X-T3 is a camera rich in great features, making it very well suited to a wide range of subject genres, including macro photography. At its core is the class-leading back-side illuminated 26.1-megapixel X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor, working with the X-Processor 4 image processing engine. Its native ISO range of 160- 12,800 is impressive and capable of noise-free, richly coloured shots, even at the higher ISO settings where many cameras struggle to deliver high-quality images.
XF80MM F/2.8 R LM OIS WR Giving an effective focal length of 122mm (35mm format), this highly specified lens is the perfect optic to explore the wonderful world of macro. Its has 16 elements in 12 groups, including one aspherical, three ED and one Super ED element. Close focusing to 25cm is possible, giving a magnification of 1:1 – and because of the inner focusing system, the lens stays a constant size as you get closer to the subject. This weather- resistant lens can also be combined with the XF1.4X TC WR or XF2X TC WR teleconverters for even greater reach, and offers OIS with a 5EV benefit.

XF10-24MM F/4 R OIS WR This lens was recently updated to give an even better optical performance. Enhancements include an updated OIS system, with a 6.5EV benefit and five-axis stabilisation when used with a current X Series camera. Plus, improved water and dust resistance, and an aperture ring with f/stop. The lens’ wide coverage (15-36mm in 35mm format) is ideal for landscape photography.
for the look I want, and a suitable ISO speed to allow fast enough shutter speeds to get sharp insect shots. On the X-T3, I’d happily go up to ISO 1600 for excellent quality. I have AF-On set for back-button focusing and tweak focus manually if it’s needed, using the focus check and peak highlights for accuracy. When I go out now, I have the X-T3 fitted with the XF80mm f/2.8 R LMOIS WRmacro lens for my nature shots, and the X-Pro2 with the XF10-24mm f/4 R OIS for scenics, plus a tripod and filters. It’s the perfect partnership.
