HILL FARM CHESTERTON, PETERBOROUGH Perched on top of a hill overlooking the attractive countryside surrounding Peterborough, Hill Farm is a family-run farm shop offering ‘pick your own’ (PYO) and ready-picked soft fruit and vegetables. In July, expect gooseberries, strawberries, tayberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants, with blackberries ripening from mid-July onwards. Other PYO crops available from mid to late July include mixed flowers, spinach, patty pans, courgettes and marrows. There’s also a children’s area, where energetic youngsters can let off steam, plus a refreshment kiosk serving teas, coffees, ice creams and light snacks. Find opening times by visiting hillfarmpyo.co.uk DAWSON’S FARM WARBOYS, HUNTINGDON Run by a husband-and-wife team passionate about farming and educating the public on where their food comes from, Dawson’s Farm Strawberries will be open throughout the summer, bursting with red berries ripe for the taking! Opening hours are 10am to 6pm from Monday to Friday, and 10am to 4pm at weekends. Follow them over on Facebook and Instagram @dawsonsfarmstrawberries for updates. Bury Lane’s popular strawberry tunnels will be open until mid to late July, from 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10.30am to 4pm on Sundays. “Strawberry picking is fun for all the family and will create special memories for everyone,” says Alison Dyche from the Bury Lane Farm Shop team. “Our strawberries are grown on raised tabletops, so are easy to pick, and under cover to protect you from sun (or rain).” Enjoy with fresh cream or ice cream to taste them at their best; or purchase jam made with Bury Lane’s own strawberries in the on-site farm shop. A host of varieties are available, like centenary, sweetheart and marshmello. Depending on the weather and season, they also offer PYO raspberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants. Enjoy beautiful views across the Fens as you pick the produce, before enjoying the fruits of your labour.
