SAVOUR & SIP

VEGAN FEASTS Food is one of the biggest highlights of the festive period, with an abundance of warming spices and rich flavours coming to the fore. Many will associate Christmas dinner with great big turkeys surrounded by pigs in blankets – but in an age where many of us are questioning our meat consumption, it’s worth taking a look at some of the plant-based alternatives. The Tipsy Vegan will offer a delicious and hearty meat-free menu from 5-23 December. It features oyster mushroom calamari with samphire and creamy leek and potato soup for starters, small plates of mushroom wellington bites with port gravy, arancini cacio e pepe, cajun cauliflower tacos – and crostini with sliced ‘beef’, horseradish, crème fraiche and pickles. SOY TO THE WORLD!

For dessert, tuck into spiced pannacotta with mulled wine syrup or the chocolate hazelnut tart. Stem and Glory is also offering a festive feast, with tantalising starters such as grilled king oyster ‘scallops’ with artichoke hearts and cauliflower purée, or swede gnocchi with roasted chestnut mushroom and spinach in a ‘stilton’ cream, plus spiced walnuts and aged balsamic. For mains, try the rosemary and orange ‘tofurkey’ stuffed with yellow pea, chestnuts and cranberries; or the festive pumpkin ravioli in browned butter sauce with mountain sage leaves and house-aged cashew ‘parmesan’. Puds include a pear and cinnamon crumble, chocolate torte with orange coulis and frangipane mince pies.

BREAK THE MOULD Winter blues

Part of The Gog’s exceptional range of British farmhouse cheeses, the Colston Bassett stilton is a blue for those people who ‘don’t like blues’. Produced exclusively for Neal’s Yard Dairy, it’s gentler, sweeter and more balanced than a ‘typical’ blue cheese. Starting at £10.95 for approximately 305g, it makes an exceptional gift for the cheese lovers in your life this Christmas.
