– Tilta makes a good one and Easyrig has a good plate that you can attach the camera to – you can have the main body of the camera on your back and the sensor block in your hands. It’s great for weight transference and is especially helpful on longer shoots. On Top Gear , the production teams use the Rialto so that they can have multiple sensor blocks in the cockpit in order to get more creative shots. It’s the same for car rigs – productions will often tether the camera body away from the sensor, putting the camera body on the back seat of the car and the sensor on the dashboard. As well, can you imagine putting a full-sized Venice on a dashboard? It’d be near impossible. DOPs will also want to use the Rialto to maintain social distancing. Especially with everything that’s going on right now, having a sensor block that’s a maximum of 5.5 metres away from the camera body is really conducive towards getting productions back on track.
he Venice Rialto Extension System is a removable sensor that allows for the camera body and sensor to be separated from each other with only a single lead between them. It’s
a four-screw operation to change the Venice from normal to this configuration and back again. It’s very easy to do and takes no longer than ten minutes. The lead also comes in two different lengths, at 2.7 metres and 5.5 metres. The important thing about the Rialto is that, even with this extra flexibility, the Venice still behaves exactly as if the sensor and camera were together in one unit. There’s no compromise with the camera’s image quality or its functionality, because the data is still sent directly from the sensor block to the main body of the camera. Not only does the Rialto maintain all the things we love about the Venice, it also loops in with a VDC so that you can get a monitor output from the sensor block unit, which is great for handheld shots. If you shoot handheld using a backpack
