DEFINITION’S CAMERA LISTINGS
Episode 10 of Netflix’s Cursed was centred around an epic battle sequence. Director of photography, Balazs Bolygo, chose the Sony Venice with the Rialto extension to really immerse viewers in the drama. “We had the Venice in its small, detached mode, attached to a Mini Libra remote head and suspended on the Tyr Arm, both from Camera Revolution,” Bolygo explains. “You can get quite close to the ground and capture some really dramatic low angles.” As for the camera itself, Bolygo is certainly a fan: “I love working with the Venice,” he enthuses. “For me, I grew up on film and I’ve never really changed the way I work when I use a digital camera as opposed to a film camera. I like to light by eye and trust my light meter, and I feel the Venice really allows me to do that. I can go for that traditional method, working to a digital negative the same way I would with celluloid, and it’s never really caught me out. I know that sensor well enough to know what I can get away with and what I can’t. “I also like the freedom the Rialto allows, of not being tied to a monitor. I prefer being more connected to the floor and the actors, and the extension is great for that.” UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL SONY RIALTO BASED ON:
