To maximise dynamic range, the BGH1 offers V-Log L, which has the same V-Gamut characteristics as the V-Log found in the Varicams. So V-Log LUTs can be used in grading. The BGH1 also has V-Log L view assist, so LUT files can be imported from an SD card and applied to the video. And the output of an LUT-applied image via SDI or HDMI is also supported, for a truly professional workflow. It makes the BGH1 an ideal second or third camera in a Panasonic Varicam workflow. As well as 10-bit HDMI live output, the camera will simultaneously record internally. With the new Lumix BGH1, Panasonic has taken the very best sensor technology and 10-bit recording of the GH5S, added in Varicam colour science and Dual Native ISO sensor, and put it in a rugged and hugely flexible body that can be used for a range of productions. Now there are no limits to your imagination for how to use such a small yet high-quality camera.

For maximum flexibility, the camera can be powered by external batteries, the included AC adapter or by Power over Ethernet+ (PoE+) protocols. Control over a maximum of 12 Lumix BGH1 cameras is available using Panasonic PC software Lumix Tether for Multicam. With a future firmware update, it will also support wired IP streaming (RTP/RTSP). It’s a camera you can place just about anywhere and control from anywhere. With 3G-SDI, HDMI or IP streaming, it can output to a monitor, recorder, switcher or transmitter. You can control and power the camera via Ethernet or USB through the Lumix Tether software or through the free Lumix Sync app. And the Genlock and Timecode functions make it ideal to sync with other cameras for multicam editing. The 545g body itself has a control dial and cursor buttons, as well as Function, Quick Menu, Playback and Record buttons. With no viewfinder or LCD screen, you either have to plug in an external monitor or use your smartphone and the Lumix Sync app to see what you are changing. The body has nine standard threaded holes to fit accessories, plus a tripod mount and a hotshoe on the top.

it is compact and light, while the aluminium and magnesium alloy body frame makes the camera durable. It feels like a high-quality professional product that will perform for years. The body has a new heat dispersion structure and a cooling fan for unlimited video recording – a crucial feature for long shoots. There is a double SD card slot for backup recording or relay recording, behind a well-sealed card door. All of the inputs and outputs are protected by quality, easy-fit covers. There are tally lamps at the front and rear, but because the front light is on a corner you can see a tally light from all around the camera. There is also a network connection light and a 3.5mm audio (in/ out) jack compatible with the optional extra XLR microphone DMW-XLR1, plus a 2.5mm socket for a remote control. As well as the USB 3.1 Type-C port, it is equipped with a 3G-SDI and a HDMI Type-A terminal, which can be used for simultaneous output. Genlock IN and Timecode IN/OUT functions enable multi-angle synchronised video recording, allowing the building of a scalable system with external monitors, rigs and gimbals supplied by other manufacturers.
